Conference with a gender perspective on fair jobs and growth
Sweden’s Minister for Gender Equality Åsa Regnér hosted a conference on how gender equality can contribute to fair jobs and growth the 8 November in Gothenburg. Gender equality ministers, from the upcoming EU presidencies, participate and discussed gender equality in relation to the labour market and overall progress in the area of gender equality in the EU based on the Gender Equality Index of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).

Sweden a strong voice for women’s rights at 61st session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women
“This year, it feels more important than ever to participate. Many of us view what is happening around the world today with concern. Human rights and gender equality are not at the top of the global agenda. In particular, the rights of young girls, women and LGBT people are questioned,” says Minister for Gender Equality Åsa Regnér in connection with her participation at the 61st session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York on 13–24 March.
UN report gathers Swedish initiatives for the rights of older people
On 31 October, the Government sent the Swedish report ‘National follow-up of the regional implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) in Sweden’ to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
The Government helps municipalities place unaccompanied minors
The reception of large numbers of unaccompanied minors seeking asylum in 2015 involved a considerable undertaking on the part of the municipalities to achieve a good long-term system of reception in which account is taken of children’s rights. Although the number of unaccompanied minors seeking asylum in Sweden has decreased, Sweden will probably receive a large number of unaccompanied girls and boys in coming years too.
Government presented measures in response to refugee situation
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency is to coordinate the management of the refugee situation. Financial support granted to the Swedish Red Cross and Health and Social Care Inspectorate to strengthen capacity in permit application processing.
