Ambassador Olof Skoog to chair the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC)

The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has appointed Ambassador Olof Skoog as the Permanent Chair of the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC), one of the highest posts within the new EU foreign service, the European External Action Service (EEAS). Mr Skoog led the PSC when Sweden was President of the EU in the autumn of 2009 and has been Sweden's representative in the Committee for the past three years. Prior to this, he was Director-General for Political Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm.

"Olof Skoog has not achieved this position because he is Swedish but because he was the best candidate," comments Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt.
