Diplomats invited to the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs

A briefing on the new organisation and policy priorities of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs was held on Monday 21 November 2011 in the premises of the Ministry. More than 60 diplomats attended the meeting.

Ambassador of Romania Raduta Matache, Minister for Public Administration and Housing Stefan Attefall, Ambassador of Belgium Johan Van Dessel and the Apostolic Nuncio Emil Tscherrig.

Three out of the Ministry's four ministers participated and presented their activities:

- Mr Göran Hägglund, Minister for Health and Social Affairs

- Mr Stefan Attefall, Minister for Public Administration and Housing

- Mr Ulf Kristersson, Minister for Social Security.

Since the Minister for Children and the Elderly, Mrs Maria Larsson, was unable to attend the event, the priorities in the areas of children's rights and elderly care were in her place presented by the Political Advisor Mr. Göran Holmström.

Representatives of Swecare also participated. Swecare is a foundation devoted to export promotion in the field of health care.

After the presentations, diplomats had the opportunity to ask questions and then to network in an informal setting with ministers, state secretaries and staff at the Ministry.

The organizers of the briefing at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs stated that they had aimed at improving dialogue between the Ministry and Embassies and informing them of policies pursued. After the event they were very happy with the outcome and said that "the Ministry has got many new contacts to more countries, and the Embassies are now aware of the fact that the Ministry is an accessible actor with whom they can get in touch if they have any questions on policies in our fields of activity".
