With the main responsibility for rural issues, the Ministry for Rural Affairs has a broad spectrum of responsibilities.This includes rural development, agriculture and related environmental issues, forestry, fisheries, reindeer husbandry, Sami affairs, horticulture, plant and animal issues, food, hunting and game management, and higher education and research in the green sector. The Ministry also has an important role as coordinator of the Government's visions of 'Sweden - the new culinary nation' and 'The Forest Kingdom - with values for the world', which aim to create more jobs and growth throughout the country.
In fierce competition with four other finalist cities, Växjö has been named the Culinary Capital of Sweden for 2015. Växjö is the fifth city to hold this title and will take over from Jokkmokk, which holds the title for 2014.
