Tuesday May 8 08:30-16:45
Many economies are facing substantial fiscal challenges in the years ahead and need to strike a balance between budget consolidation and growth-oriented policies. Now it is more important than ever to review the factors that explain how fiscal sustainability can be restored and maintained. The conference brings together senior policy makers and leading academics to discuss cross-country experience and recent research. The first day focuses on how various approaches to fiscal consolidation have fared, and what lessons can be drawn for countries now faced with high deficits and debt levels. The second day focuses on how the adoption of a medium-term perspective in fiscal policy making and budgeting can promote strong public finances.
