Prime Minister's Office 12 December 2010
Fredrik Reinfeldt, Prime Minister
Comments by Fredrik Reinfeldt
"Saturday's events in central Stockholm lead many people to ask whether Sweden has become less safe. What occurred is unwanted and unacceptable. We must safeguard the open society where people can live together side by side.
"We do not have answers to all the questions yet. This can lead many people to start drawing conclusions that are not based on the facts. Efforts are now being made to find out what really lies behind the events; by the Swedish Security Service and the Prosecutor. It is important to point out that in the present situation we should not draw hasty conclusions."
The Government is monitoring developments carefully and is staying constantly up to date.
