Statement regarding Al Jazeera interview

Published

During an interview with Al Jazeera last week, the Minister for Foreign Affairs received a question concerning the Government's views on the extreme right in Sweden. The interview was interpreted simultaneously between Arabic and English. In the question about the extreme right, reference was made to the Swedish Committee Against Antisemitism. This reference was lost in interpretation and the Minister for Foreign Affairs did not understand that it was the Swedish Committee Against Antisemitism that was being referred to.

The Government opposes the claim that the Swedish Committee Against Antisemitism is in any way linked with the extreme right. The Government does not consider that the Swedish Committee Against Antisemitism is an extreme right group. The Swedish Committee Against Antisemitism plays an important role in combating anti-Semitism, racism and hate in society. The Government appreciates the Committee's work and the Government Offices is in close contact with the Committee.
