Summary of the priorities and achievements of the Swedish Chairmanship of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council 2017–2019
Sweden took over the two-year chairmanship of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council at the ministerial meeting in Arkhangelsk on 19 October 2017. Since its inception, the Barents cooperation has aimed to promote peace, stability and the development of the Barents region, through cross-border collaboration and people-to-people contacts. The Swedish chairmanship programme, with the title ‘Regional sustainable development for the future’, was formed with a view to advancing cooperation and deepening collaboration in key areas of common interest.
Norstedts Agency wins 2018 Cultural and Creative Industries Export Prize
The Government’s 2018 Cultural and Creative Industries Prize was presented Wednesday, 2 October, by Minister for Foreign Trade and Nordic Affairs Anna Hallberg. The Prize was awarded to Norstedts Agency for the Millennium series.
Government support to culture schools reintroduced
To ensure that as many children and young people as possible can benefit from municipal culture school activities, the Government proposes that the support to municipalities running culture school activities should be reintroduced, and that it should amount to the previous level of SEK 100 million a year.

Today the Government appointed Gitte Ørskou as the new director and head of Moderna Museet. Ms Ørskou will take up her post on 1 September 2019.

Free museum admission to remain
Admission to a number of state-owned museums will remain free of charge under a proposal in the Government’s Spring Amending Budget for 2019. The Spring Amending Budget is based on an agreement between the Green Party, the Swedish Social Democratic Party, the Centre Party and the Liberals.
Government grants to culture schools reintroduced
The Government intends to reintroduce government grants to municipal culture schools. The grants, which encompass SEK 50 million, will be used to broaden the offering within culture schools and reach new groups. The proposal is made in the Government’s Spring Amending Budget, which is based on an agreement between the Green Party, the Swedish Social Democratic Party, the Centre Party and the Liberals.

Nominations for the 2018 Music Export Prize
The Government’s Music Export Prize is awarded every year to an artist who has been internationally successful during the preceding year and has contributed to Swedish musical export success and to a positive image of Sweden. The winner will be announced by Minister for Foreign Trade, with responsibility for Nordic affairs, Ann Linde at a ceremony at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on Wednesday 6 March at 14.30.
