Sweden builds security together with others. Sweden’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a cornerstone in this work. In addition, Sweden has extensive defence cooperation with other countries, both in the form of bilateral cooperation between Sweden and another country and multilateral cooperation with several countries.
Cooperation with strategic Allies such as the United States, the United Kingdom and the countries in the Baltic Sea region is of particular importance to Sweden’s security. The cooperation with Finland is Sweden’s farthest-reaching defence cooperation.
Sweden’s NATO membership is a cornerstone of Swedish foreign and security policy. Other important multilateral defence cooperation occurs within the EU, NORDEFCO and the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
