Public health and medical care
Medical care involves the measures taken to provide care for those who are ill and the development of medical and health care services. Care should be equitable, gender-equal and accessible, and offered on equal terms according to need. Public health is about the measures taken to prevent ill health and covers everything from broad action to promote public health to specific issues such as alcohol and tobacco consumption, and protection from communicable diseases.

COVID-19 Act allows stronger communicable disease control measures
The Government has adopted a Government Bill for a temporary Act to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The legislation is intended to give the Government the authority to adopt more binding communicable disease control measures than was previously possible. The Act entered into force on 10 January 2021 and is in effect until 30 September 2021.

A Committee of Inquiry in the form of a Commission will be tasked with evaluating the measures taken by the Government, the administrative agencies concerned, the regions and the municipalities to limit the spread of the virus that causes the disease COVID-19 and the effects of its spread.

Changes to the ordinance prohibiting the holding of public gatherings and events
To address the crowding that has been seen in nightclubs, the Government has decided that public dance events for more than 50 people will once again be prohibited. The Government has also adopted a new exemption from the ordinance, allowing public gatherings and public events with a maximum of 300 seated attendees, rather than the 500 previously discussed. The changes come into effect on 1 November.
