Final negotiations on an agreement with Ecuador on legal assistance in criminal cases
The negotiations on a bilateral agreement on legal assistance in criminal cases between Sweden and Ecuador that were initiated in August this year are now in their final stages. Anna-Carin Svensson, international chief negotiator for the Ministry of Justice, and Anders Rönqvist, Director-General for Legal Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, were involved in the final negotiations that took place in Quito, Ecuador on Thursday.
"We are very pleased that we have succeeded in a relatively short period of time in negotiating a good agreement on judicial cooperation," says State Secretary Ann Linde.
The Ministry of Justice is now preparing a government decision on the adoption of the agreement ahead of the government meeting on Thursday. There will then be an exchange of notes before the agreement enters into force.
