Sweden supports project to involve more women in peace processes

Published

When peace processes also include women, the resulting peace is more sustainable. Sweden is now entering a partnership with Georgetown University’s Institute for Women, Peace and Security in Washington DC, by financially supporting a project that will study women’s roles in peace processes in Ukraine and Myanmar. The cooperation will be announced today by Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström when she visits the Institute.

Support to the Institute for Women, Peace and Security's project amounts to SEK 1 million. Ms Wallström will also meet students and researchers at the university and deliver a speech about the connection between security and development, and women's participation in social processes.

Ms Wallström will continue her visit in Washington DC by taking part in the Nuclear Security Summit, which will continue until 1 April.
