Anna Ekström to accompany the national vocational team to WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017
On 14–19 October, the WorldSkills Competition will be held in in the United Arab Emirates. Minister for Upper Secondary School and Adult Education and Training Anna Ekström will accompany the Swedish vocational team to Abu Dhabi and take part in a ministerial meeting on vocational training being held at the same time.
The WorldSkills Competition is the world championships of vocational skills for young people under the age of 23 years. This year, 1 300 young professionals from 77 countries will compete in 51 different skills sectors over a period of four days. Sweden will be represented by the national vocational team, and the skills sectors include web design, floristry, nursing, aircraft maintenance and jewellery.
Ms Ekström will take part in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Summit, a ministerial meeting on issues concerning vocational training, that will be held in connection with the WorldSkills Competition. She will also meet Hussain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education in the United Arab Emirates, and hold bilateral talks on vocational education and training with Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, Minister of Education in Finland, and Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) in Singapore.
Ms Ekström will also take part in a panel discussion and lead a seminar on the future of vocational education and training.
