Prime Minister Stefan Löfven on the election of Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission

Published

I welcome the approval of Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission. It was high time there was a woman in this key position. It is positive that the leadership of the EU institutions is now being put in place so that we can continue the work on the crucial issues for our future, such as jobs, climate change, migration and security.

The Government will now initiate discussions with the incoming President on the Swedish Commissioner and the distribution of portfolios. We will of course contribute to the creation of a gender-balanced Commission.
