Prolonged internal border controls in Sweden
The Swedish Government has decided today to prolong internal border controls from 22 November to 11 December 2015.
On 12 November, the Swedish Government decided to temporarily reintroduce internal border controls. The decision was valid for ten days, up to and including 21 November.
Today, the Swedish Government has decided to prolong internal border controls from 22 November up to and including 11 December 2015. The Government’s assessment is that the conditions on which the earlier decision was taken still apply.
More refugees are now trying to reach Sweden than ever before. The Swedish Government’s overall assessment is that it is necessary to prolong the period for internal border controls since the present situation continues to pose acute challenges to vital functions in society.
The Swedish Government intends to review whether there will still be a need after 11 December to further prolong the period for internal border controls.
