Programme for Sweden’s membership of the United Nations Security Council 2017–2018
The programme for Sweden’s membership of the United Nations Security Council 2017–2018 is presented today, 9 December, at a press conference with Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström and Sweden’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Olof Skoog, at the Swedish Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.
"Our presidency in January is an opportunity to offer the new Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, a good start by laying the foundations for a constructive relationship with the Security Council, focusing on conflict prevention, and women, peace and security," says Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström.
"Our foreign policy is rooted in a solid foundation of international law, human rights, gender equality and a humanitarian approach. The same will apply to our term on the Security Council," says Sweden's Ambassador to the United Nations, Olof Skoog.
