Tobias Billström attends Nordic-African Foreign Ministers Meeting in Copenhagen

Published

On 2–3 May, Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström will be in Copenhagen to attend this year’s Nordic-African Foreign Ministers Meeting. The agenda includes peace and security, multilateral cooperation, reform of multilateral institutions and increasing trade and investment.

“At a time when multilateralism is being challenged on a broad front, the partnership between the Nordic countries and Africa is more important than ever. This year’s foreign ministers meeting is therefore an important opportunity to discuss the growing security threat and challenges we all face. I look forward to following up on the discussions we had on these issues at last year’s meeting in Algiers”, said Mr Billström.

Representatives from around 30 African countries and the Nordic foreign ministers are expected to attend the meeting. In connection with it, a business forum will be held by Danish Industry and attended by Nordic and African business representatives.

Nordic-African Foreign Ministers Meeting

The Nordic-African Foreign Ministers Meeting is a forum for high-level political dialogue between the Nordic region and Africa. Since it was initiated by Sweden in 2001, the meetings have developed into an annual format, hosted alternately by Nordic and African countries. In recent years, it has become an increasingly important platform for developing the partnership between the Nordic countries and Africa.
