The first barrier to crime – broad preventive efforts

Sweden is a wonderful country to live in. At the same time, there is no question that our country is facing serious challenges related to crime and insecurity. Broad and structured crime prevention efforts are needed to counteract criminal networks and also prevent other types of crime. 

The Government prioritises a number of action areas in the efforts to reduce the risk of crime. These involve measures to increase participation and security in vulnerable areas, efforts to achieve a strong work-first principle and measures to strengthen public health, and good and accessible health and medical care. The Government also prioritises violence-prevention efforts, preventive measures in schools and measures in the area of migration, as well as measures to tackle harmful use or addiction. 

Priority action areas:

  • efforts to achieve a strong work-first principle;
  • measures in the area of migration;
  • increased participation and security in vulnerable areas;
  • measures to strengthen public health, and good and accessible health and medical care;
  • preventive efforts in schools;
  • violence-prevention efforts and
  • measures to combat harmful use or addiction.
