The Memorandum of Understanding with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on military cooperation will not be renewed

Updated

The Government decided on March 12 that the Memorandum of Understanding with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia concerning military cooperation will not be prolonged and will thus expire on November 15 2015.

The Memorandum of Understanding with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on military cooperation was signed in 2005. The agreement specifies the scope for military cooperation between Sweden and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in areas such as defence materiel, technical maintenance, technology transfer, research and development and exchange of expertise in the fields of repair and military medical services.

The agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not a trade agreement. Commercial agreements regarding the export of defense products to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not be affected by the decision not to renew the Memorandum of Understanding.
