Government calls for a Russian sporting boycott
The EU has imposed sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. The Government is now calling for a boycott of sporting exchanges with Russia.

Increased crisis support for culture and sport
On 18 January, the Government will submit an initial additional amending budget for 2022 to the Riksdag. The budget includes, among other things, increased crisis support to culture and sport. In addition to the proposals presented earlier, an additional SEK 100 million is now being allocated to culture and sport.

Strengthened partnership between EU and African Union
Heads of state and government from the EU and the African Union (AU) will meet in Brussels on 17–18 February. It is the seventh time the EU and AU leaders will meet. The aim is to establish foundations for a renewed and deepened partnership between the two unions. The leaders are expected to adopt a joint declaration on closer cooperation in a range of areas. Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson will represent Sweden.

Enhanced support to civil society
The Government is proposing enhanced support to civil society in an additional amending budget to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. The proposal involves temporary support of SEK 50 million to civil society child and youth organisations. In addition, special investments of SEK 80 million are proposed for civil society organisations working with particularly vulnerable groups. According to the Riksdag’s preliminary schedule, the budget will be adopted on 24 February.

Majority of COVID-19 restrictions to be removed on 9 February 2022
The phasing out of measures in response to COVID-19 will begin on 9 February 2022. As of that date, measures such as the participant limit for public gatherings and events and the possibility to demand vaccination certificates upon entry will be removed. The same will apply to other restrictions, such as the requirement of social distancing between groups and cap on group sizes.

Stricter infection control measures to be introduced on 12 January 2022
On 12 January 2022, stricter infection control measures will be introduced due to the significant increase in community transmission at the same time as there is increased pressure on health care. The overall assessment is that Sweden is in a situation where it is necessary to take certain infection control measures in stage 3 of the Government’s action plan for introducing infection control measures.

More infection control measures to be introduced on 23 December 2021
On 23 December, more infection control measures will be introduced in accordance with the Government’s action plan for introducing infection control measures. This is due to the increased community transmission of COVID-19 and the increased burden on health and medical care services.

EU and the Eastern Partnership to further deepen cooperation
The leaders of the EU Member States and the Eastern Partnership countries will meet for the sixth Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels on 15 December. Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson will represent Sweden.

Proof of vaccination may be required for access to public gatherings and public functions
The Government intends to proceed with the proposal to allow the use of vaccination certificates at public gatherings and public functions from 1 December 2021. The aim is to limit the spread of the virus among unvaccinated people in particular by preventing them from gathering in large groups, while public gatherings and public functions can continue to receive visitors.

Substantial investments in the budget to prevent and combat men’s violence against women
Men’s violence against women must stop. This is a priority issue for the Government. In the Budget Bill for 2022, the Government proposes a range of measures to prevent and combat men’s violence against women and honour-based violence and oppression. This involves permanent funds and government grants, and a sheltered housing reform for adults and children who are subjected to violence.

More restrictions to be removed from 29 September
The government has previously presented a plan for how the advice and restrictions introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic are to be adapted and removed. At a press conference on 7 September, the government announced that restrictions on attendance numbers at public gatherings and events are planned to be removed as of 29 September 2021.

Increased possibilities for participants in international elite competitions to enter Sweden
The Government has today adopted an amendment to the temporary ban on entry from third countries that expands the possibilities for participants in international elite competitions to enter Sweden.

Emergency support and incentives to sport
The Government proposes allocating an additional SEK 600 million to sport to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitate the resumption of activities once the situation allows and contribute to gender-equal and equitable sports activities. The proposal is based on an agreement between the government parties, the Centre Party and the Liberal Party.

Fact sheet: Education for sustainable development
The 2030 Agenda is a plan of action for universal and sustainable environmental, social and economic development. It is made up of 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 4 emphasises quality education as a prerequisite for sustainable societies and lifestyles.
