  • Flag raising ceremonies were held at the Riksdag and Karlberg Palace

    On Monday 18 March, Sweden’s membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was celebrated with flag raising ceremonies at the Riksdag and Karlberg Palace. HM The King, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Micael Bydén took part in the ceremonies. At Karlberg Palace, an address was also delivered to the ambassadors of the NATO countries in Sweden.

Ceremonies in Sweden and abroad to highlight accession to NATO

On Monday 18 March, Sweden’s NATO membership will be highlighted in ceremonies at the Riksdag and Karlberg Palace. During the ceremonies, speeches will be delivered and the NATO flag raised.

Swedish flag raised at NATO headquarters

On Monday 11 March, Sweden’s flag was raised at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson delivered a speech and held a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Sweden is a NATO member

On Thursday 7 March, Sweden’s instrument of accession was deposited with the United States Government, as depositary of the North Atlantic Treaty. Therefore, Sweden is now a member of NATO.
