Sweden invests in introduction activities for newly arrived immigrants

Updated

The Government wants to provide additional funds of SEK 32 million in 2015 to the sports movement to finance introduction activities for newly arrived immigrants. This is a permanent investment. For 2016 and onwards, the funding is expected to increase by SEK 64 million per year.

This proposal makes it possible for the sports movement to develop its activities and recruit new participants and leaders.

The sports movement will be given the opportunity to offer activities and a basic introduction to associations and clubs to newly arrived immigrants in Sweden.

Involvement in sport is a way into society

Civil society has a key role to play in helping newly arrived immigrants become established. It is important that newly arrived children, young people and adults, regardless of gender, are given good opportunities to participate in Swedish society. Getting involved in sporting activities can make this easier.

Support to the sports movement

A precondition for the sports movement to be able to meet these needs is the allocation of additional funds.

The Government considers that these initiatives need to be started throughout the country as soon as possible.

The Government considers that the appropriation ‘Support to sport’ should be raised by SEK 32 million in 2015.

For 2016 and onwards, the Government expects the appropriation to increase by SEK 64 million per year.
