Sweden has the EU’s most well-developed capital market and particularly distinguishes itself with its deep capital market and high level of retail participation. In addition, Sweden excels in its number of initial public offerings (IPOs) – in 2024, Sweden had more IPOs than Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands combined.

Strengthening the EU’s capital markets is a main priority for Sweden as it is crucial to bolster the EU’s competitiveness and finance the challenges that the EU is facing. By highlighting its exemplary approach, Sweden can provide concrete ideas for the EU’s ongoing efforts to deepen and integrate the bloc’s capital markets – and position Europe as a global leader in inclusive and sustainable financing.
