Support to Ukraine is the Government’s top foreign policy priority. The visit to Kristianstad highlighted the strong historical and contemporary ties between Sweden and Ukraine.

During their meeting, the ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine, the country’s path towards EU membership, and Sweden’s continued support. The visit also included a walkabout and a visit to a monument commemorating Ukrainian hetman Pylyp Orlyk. This was followed by a ceremony to present a reproduction of a historical Ukrainian standard from the Swedish National Army Museum’s collections. The ceremony was attended by representatives of local government and civil society, and by Ukrainian refugees, in an expression of the broad Swedish support for Ukraine.

After his visit to Kristianstad, Mr Sybiha continued his travels in southern Sweden. He visited Lund University, where he was a guest at a student evening at the Academic Society. The following day, he visited Blekinge Wing in Ronneby, where he was welcomed by Chief of the Air Force Major General Jonas Wikman and spoke to Gripen system pilots and technicians.
