Voksenåsen AS

Voksenåsen is a house and surrounding land in Oslo, Norway that is owned by the Swedish State and managed by the Swedish National Property Board. It was donated to Sweden in 1955 as an expression of gratitude for its humanitarian assistance during the Second World War. The operation is organised in a Norwegian limited company owned through the Swedish Ministry of Culture.

Voksenåsen currently houses a non-profit cultural centre and a commercial hotel under the same roof. The cultural centre is responsible for fulfilling the gift’s aim of promoting Swedish-Norwegian relations and mutual understanding in the areas of society, language and culture. Since its inauguration in 1960, Voksenåsen has housed a large collection of artwork by both Swedish and Norwegian artists. In 2019, Public Art Agency Sweden reviewed the collection, reorganising it and supplementing it with new works.

Voksenåsen’s cultural activities focus on creating contacts with and among young people, learning and a sense of community. Its largest youth projects are remembrance trips to Norwegian memorial sites for the victims of Nazism, Voksenåsen Music Academies and the Nordic Youth Conference, a collaborative project for democracy.
