“Germany is our foremost trade partner and an important strategic partner to Sweden in a number of areas. In light of the international situation, rapid technological development and the need to accelerate the green and digital transition, this strategic partnership with Germany is an important tool for both our business sector and Sweden as a whole,” says Mr Kristersson.
Sweden and Germany entered into their first innovation partnership in 2017, which was renewed in 2019. The partnership has focused on battery research and production, and cooperation on sustainable transport and artificial intelligence. This cooperation will now continue to evolve, including in the areas of defence and space.
The intensified partnership agreement between Sweden and Germany was signed in connection with the heads of government’s visit to Norrsken Foundation, which supports young growth companies. The two leaders also held talks and a joint press conference in conjunction with the visit.
