New Swedish support strengthens Ukraine’s IT expertise

As part of Sweden’s support to the reconstruction of Ukraine, a new initiative is now being launched to further strengthen the country’s IT expertise. Through the support of almost SEK 10 million to Beetroot Academy, more than 2 000 professionals in Ukraine’s public administration, civil society and IT sector will be given more tools to meet the digital opportunities and challenges of the future with targeted educational initiatives.
“Qualified labour with digital expertise is needed for Ukraine’s economy and society to recover. Sweden is supporting Ukraine’s IT development in a number of ways and has now decided to provide SEK 10 million in new support to Beetroot Academy that will go to training more than 2 000 professionals in IT expertise. With this support, we are investing in training in AI, data analysis and other future-orientated areas – an investment that strengthens both the labour market and public administration. This is an important contribution to Ukraine’s resilience, reconstruction and path towards EU membership,” says Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa.
Through the new support to Beetroot Academy, at least 2 000 professionals within Ukraine’s public administration, civil society and IT sector will benefit from training that seeks to strengthen their capacity in areas such as data analysis, machine learning and the integration of AI tools. The project will be implemented in Ukraine during the period 2025–2027.
About Beetroot Academy
Beetroot Academy is a Swedish-Ukrainian IT school founded in 2012. It provides vocational training in IT with the aim of enabling and improving career opportunities in the digital economy. In 2024, Beetroot won an award at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin for its work in Ukraine and contribution to the country’s reconstruction and development. It has trained a total of more than 14 000 people, of whom more than 60 per cent are women, in 30 countries worldwide.
