Sweden and Thailand enter new strategic partnership

In conjunction with the visit, Sweden and Thailand entered into a bilateral strategic partnership that aims to further develop cooperation in multilateral issues, defence, trade, green transition, digitalisation, new technology, investment and economic security.

The foreign ministers also discussed matters related to global and regional security and the rules-based world order. In addition, the talks touched on trade relations and investment, as well as cooperation between the countries for sustainable development and innovation. 

Sweden and Thailand have strong and broad relations that date all the way back to 1868. The signing of a strategic partnership is evidence of deeper cooperation and commitment to make joint progress in areas that are crucial to both countries and regions.

Cooperation areas within the framework of the strategic partnership include initiatives to support a green transition, increase mutual investment in sectors such as agriculture and forestry, renewable and fossil-free energy, defence cooperation, digitalisation, health and medical care, manufacturing, smart electronics, automation and robotics, telecommunications, 5G, space and transport.
Thailand and Sweden intend to explore opportunities to strengthen the dialogue on economic security, including critical infrastructure, resilient, secure and reliable supply chains, digitalisation and protection of a free, open, global, interoperable and secure internet. Both parties have expressed interest in continued discussions that aim to address trade-related challenges and promote improve trade facilitation measures.
