On 21 October, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard received President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović. During their meeting, they discussed Montenegro’s EU accession process, how the country will continue to maintain the pace of reforms for EU membership and political developments in the Western Balkans.

Ms Malmer Stenergard stressed that Sweden continues to support Montenegro and its goal of concluding EU accession negotiations in the near future, and that she looks forward to the EU being able to welcome Montenegro as a Member once it has fulfilled all the requisite criteria.
In connection with his visit to Stockholm, Mr Milatović also met His Majesty The King, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén and Minister for EU Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz.
