Their talks covered topics including security in the Baltic Sea region, and the deepening of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the strategic partnership, which has taken on important new dimensions in light of Sweden’s NATO membership.

Ms Malmer Stenergard also unveiled a memorial plaque at the Swedish ambassador’s residence together with representatives of the Solidarity movement, which was active during the 1980s. In 1989, secret talks between Solidarity and the communist regime were held at the Swedish Embassy as part of the broader process that led to the fall of communism in Poland and the rest of the Eastern bloc.
