Increased measure for revoking residence permits

It is important to make it difficult to abuse residence permits, and that permits are revoked when there are grounds for doing so. The Government has therefore tasked the Swedish Migration Agency to increase the work in cases of revocation of residence and work permits. This includes developing the work in cases of revocation of permits for higher education studies when there are indications that such permits are being abused.

The Swedish Migration Agency’s appropriation directions for 2023 also specify that it will prioritise cases concerning withdrawal of residence permits. Moreover, an inquiry should be appointed to examine expanding the possibilities to revoke residence permits with the aim of ensuring that the system of regulated immigration is not abused.
