Minister for EU Affairs Jessika Roswall to host Stockholm Symposium on Democracy and the Rule of Law on 21–22 June 2023

Published

The Stockholm Symposium on Democracy and the Rule of Law will gather experts from EU institutions, Member States, enlargement countries and international organisations, and representatives of the media, civil society, academia, businesses and the judicial system. The aim is to hold a constructive dialogue on efforts to strengthen democracy and the rule of law in the EU.

Speakers will include President of the Court of Justice of the EU Koen Lenaerts, European Commissioners Věra Jourová and Didier Reynders, and representatives of the three upcoming EU Presidencies: Spain’s State Secretary for the European Union Pascual Navarro, Belgium’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions Hadja Lahbib and Hungary’s Minister of Justice Judit Varga.

“The rule of law is one of the priorities of the Swedish Presidency and a cornerstone of the EU. We can and must do more to strengthen democracy and the rule of law in the EU. It is the responsibility of all Member States to safeguard these values. Gathering key experts and representatives in this area provides an excellent opportunity to jointly discuss which tools can be used more effectively,” says Minister for EU Affairs Jessika Roswall.

The Stockholm Symposium on Democracy and the Rule of Law will be streamed live on the Swedish Presidency website. More information on the meeting is provided there.
