Focus on Nordic countries’ joint security of supply as representatives meet in Visby

Published

Together, the Nordic countries have stronger capability to ensure access to essential goods and services in peacetime crises, security-related crisis situations and, ultimately, war. On 24 June, Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin met with representatives of several Nordic countries.

“At its core, our security of supply is about society continuing to function, including in serious times. Deepened cooperation strengthens the Nordic countries. Through joint preparation, we can significantly strengthen our resilience and ensure supply of basic goods and services,” says Mr Bohlin.

Efforts to produce a Nordic declaration on security of supply has been ongoing throughout the first half of the year. This meeting provided an opportunity for Minister Bohlin, to discuss the declaration with representatives of several Nordic countries, with the goal to sign it in September 2026 at the Nordic Supplies Summit, which is an annual meeting within the Nordic security of supply network.

The aim of deepened cooperation is to create coordinated and robust Nordic capability to manage disturbances to production, logistics, distribution and trade, in peacetime crises, security-related crisis situations and, ultimately, war.

Security of supply

Security of supply is about the ability, in peacetime crises and heightened state of alert, to maintain the supply of goods and services that are necessary for people’s survival, in order to ensure the most vital societal functions and contribute to military defence capability.
