UN Security Council E10 Press Statement on Idlib

The United Nations Security Council elected members (E10) joint press statement on the situation in Idlib, 5 September 2018, New York.

·       The E10  had a meeting yesterday, September 4, 2018, in which they discussed the developments in Idlib province, Syria. They called for the full implementation of Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2401.

·       The E10 expressed their deep concern of a humanitarian catastrophe in the event of a full-scale military operation in Idlib province.  They called for efforts to be stepped up by all relevant actors with influence on the ground to find a peaceful solution to the situation in Idlib.

·       The E10 reiterated the urgent appeal of the UN Secretary-General to the Government of Syria and all parties to exercise restraint and to prioritize the protection of civilians. They urged all parties to take all necessary measures to safeguard civilians, allow freedom of movement and protect civilian infrastructure, including medical and educational facilities, in accordance with international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
