Published
Sweden has repeatedly pointed to the importance of a just, lasting and mutually agreed solution to the Western Sahara issue, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the Charter of the United Nations. Sweden fully supports the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara and his efforts to bring about a political solution as part of the UN-led process. Sweden expresses its support for Morrocco’s Autonomy Plan, in light of the recently adopted Security Council resolution 2797, as a credible basis for negotiations to achieve a mutually acceptable, lasting and just political solution in accordance with the UN Charter that satisfies the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination. In line with Security Council resolution 2797, Sweden calls upon the parties to engage in negotiations, and welcomes any updates to Morocco’s proposals and other constructive contributions from the parties.
