Joint statement by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Prime Minister Donald Tusk of the Republic of Poland, on 17 February 2026.
Deepened Swedish-Polish cooperation
As NATO Allies, strategic partners and neighbours, Poland and Sweden are two pillars of security in the Baltic Sea region, with shared history and geography. To increase our national and regional security and constrain Russia, we need to combine our political, security and defence capabilities, acting as one in defending European security.
As part of our bilateral Strategic Partnership, signed in November 2024, we are now tasking our foreign and defence ministers with further developing a vision for deeper bilateral cooperation on security and defence, to be signed before the summer.
The cooperation is intended to increase Baltic Sea security through bilateral defence and security cooperation, including industrial collaboration and innovation.
Strategic political collaboration on constraining Russia, Baltic Sea regional security, support to Ukraine and transatlantic security will also be included.
