Sweden is part of broader regional and international cooperation, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. Maritime rescue operations and preparedness are areas in which Sweden shares know-how and resources and conducts exercises together with its neighbours. This strengthens both our own security and our collective capability in the region.

“Sweden has a long tradition and deep expertise in shipping and maritime rescue. Our experience not only means that we can act quickly and effectively at home, but also contributes to cooperation with our neighbours around the Baltic Sea and within the EU. Helicopter operations in Kristianstad are part of these activities,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.

In the afternoon, she visited the Raoul Wallenberg Institute and took part in the inauguration of an exhibition focused on books and other printed material about Raoul Wallenberg and his deeds. The exhibition is curated by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute’s human rights library. The Government decided earlier this year to provide additional funding of SEK 10 million for the library’s continued operation.

The day concluded with a lecture at the Association of Foreign Affairs at Lund University.
