In connection with Sheikh Al Thani’s visit, Mr Kristersson hosted a lunch that Ms Malmer Stenergard and Mr Jonson also attended. Discussions focused on flourishing trade cooperation and opportunities to develop cooperation in conflict mediation, an area in which Qatar plays a key role internationally.

The Qatari delegation also visited the Riksdag, where it was received by the Speaker and members of the Riksdag from the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Defence and the Committee on Industry and Trade.

Sweden and Qatar have a strong and growing relationship with an intensive exchange of visits in recent years. In 2024, HH the Amir of Qatar made a historic visit to Sweden, during which a number of cooperation agreements were signed. In September 2025, Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa visited Qatar, when the Qatar-Sweden Business Council was established as part of efforts to strengthen trade cooperation.
