Established in 2025, the award is presented annually in two categories: to an organisation and to an individual or group of individuals who have voluntarily carried out civilian initiatives in support of Ukraine. The award comes with prize money from the Swedish Institute for the recipients’ continued civilian initiatives in support of Ukraine.

The Swedish Institute administers the award

The Government has tasked the Swedish Institute with administering the award. Applications and nominations are submitted through the Swedish Institute website and are assessed according to the selection criteria. The Swedish Institute and an advisory jury comprising Ukrainian and Swedish representatives assess the submissions.

Decisions on the recipients are made by Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa with the Government’s authorisation.
