Statement from the meeting between Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of Sweden, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Last night we had a meeting with President Erdogan and Secretary General Stoltenberg.

At the meeting, we agreed a joint statement in which President Erdogan commits to moving forward with the ratification of Sweden’s accession to NATO.

From the Swedish side, we promised to continue living up to our commitments in line with the trilateral memorandum from Madrid.

We have also agreed to establishing a new security dialogue, or security compact, as it is called in the joint statement.

At the meeting we also discussed other parts of our bilateral relations, and agreed to deepen our cooperation on trade and investments.

We also discussed Türkiye‘s relations with the EU as a whole. From the Swedish side we welcome a closer cooperation between the European union and Türkiye, on for example the Customs Union and visa liberalization.
