On 27 March, Mr Björn von Sydow, Special Envoy of the Government of Sweden, met with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud to deliver a message from the Swedish Government about Sweden's wish for respectful and good relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sweden. The audience was attended by Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Crown Prince, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defence, President of Royal Court and Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
During the meeting, Mr von Sydow presented the message from the Swedish Government, including the Government's desire to develop the bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sweden.
"It is very positive that the Government's Special Envoy was received by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud," says Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström. "We hope to see the Saudi Ambassador back in Stockholm soon and to return to normal relations between our countries. The many contacts through a broad spectrum of Swedish society, along with our emphasised reassurance that we did not intend to insult Islam or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, contribute to the fact that relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sweden appear to be normalising."
