Sweden's support to Ukraine

Since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has provided military, humanitarian and civil support to support Ukraine. Since February 2022, Sweden contributed approximately SEK 57,1 billion (approx. EUR 4,9 billion*) to various initiatives that support Ukraine (9 September 2024). Together with the EU, Sweden has also adopted macroeconomic support and several sanctions packages against Russia.

  • New military support package to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities

    Today, 9 September, the Swedish Government presented Sweden’s 17th military support package to Ukraine. The package, worth SEK 4.6 billion, meets Ukraine’s military needs and creates freedom of action for the future. It includes donations of materiel, direct procurement, material units and financial contributions.  

  • Sweden increases support for heating and electricity supply in Ukraine by SEK 500 million

    The Government has approved an additional SEK 500 million in support for heating and electricity supply in Ukraine. According to World Bank calculations, the support could help generate electricity for 185 000 people, making this Sweden’s largest contribution yet to Ukrainian energy supply.

Humanitarian and civilian support to Ukraine

Sweden has long provided development assistance to Ukraine comprising both reform-oriented development cooperation and humanitarian support. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Sweden has provided Ukraine with approximately SEK 9 billion (approx. EUR 785 million*) in civilian and humanitarian support.

Military support to Ukraine

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Sweden has provided military support to Ukraine. This includes bilateral military support, contributions to training initiatives and payments to funds for Ukraine. The total value of Sweden’s military support to Ukraine amounts to approximately SEK 48,1 billion (approx. EUR 4,19 billion*).

Sanctions against Russia

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the EU has imposed a series of sanctions packages against Russia. The sanctions target the financial, energy and transport sectors, dual-use exports and visas. Sanctions have also been imposed on individuals and entities.

    Since February 2022, Sweden contributed approximately SEK 57,1 billion (approx. EUR 4,9 billion*) to various initiatives that support Ukraine (9 September 2024). This also includes some support to Moldova due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

    • Military material - SEK 48,1 billion (approx. EUR 4,19 billion*)
    • Humanitarian support - SEK 2.3 billion (approx. EUR 200 million*)
    • Financial support - SEK 1.1 billion (approx. EUR 97 million*)
    • Civilian crisis management - SEK 900 million (approx. EUR 78 million*)
    • Reconstruction - SEK 3,2 billion (approx. EUR 279 million*)
    • Reform support - SEK 1.5 billion (approx. EUR 130 million*)
    • Support to free media, cyber security, accountability, gender equality etc. - SEK 280 million (approx. EUR 24,3 million*)
