Jan Eliasson new Chairman of SIPRI Governing Board

The Government today appointed Ambassador Jan Eliasson as the new Chairman of the Governing Board of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). He succeeds Ambassador Sven-Olof Petersson.

Ambassador Eliasson was most recently Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and has previously been, inter alia, Sweden's Minister for Foreign Affairs, President of the United Nations General Assembly and Swedish UN Ambassador, as well as Ambassador in Washington. He will take office as Chairman of the SIPRI Governing Board on 1 June 2017.
