State Visit from Chile under way
On 10 May, Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet began her State Visit to Sweden. The President is visiting Sweden at the invitation of HM the King. The Visit will last from 10 to 12 May and is the first incoming State Visit from Chile to Sweden.

Showcase Sweden
Within the framework of the Government’s export strategy, the MFA and the Kreativ Sektor (Creative Sector) project have together created Showcase Sweden, a digital showcase for the Swedish cultural and creative industries. The aim is to make creative content accessible in a coordinated and useful format that can be used as a tool for press contacts, talks and meetings, for instance, but that can also be shown on screens in lobbies and waiting rooms and distributed to the broad public, potential customers and recipients of Swedish exports.

Changes to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs organisation
On Monday 11 April, an adaptation of the organisation and working procedures of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs enters into force to better enable the Ministry to address the challenges facing Sweden’s foreign, security and development policy in terms of rapid and complex changes around the world.

2015 Music Export Prize
The Government’s award for extraordinary services to Swedish music exports in 2015 goes to artist, songwriter and lyricist Tove Lo. The Government’s 2015 Special Prize for long-standing contributions to Swedish music exports goes to composer Anders Hillborg. The 2015 Commendation for achievements of particular importance to the internationalisation of Swedish music goes to conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen. The winners will accept their awards on 29 February 2016 at the International Press Centre.

Visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs to Baku, Azerbaijan
Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström’s trip to Southern Caucasus continued on Tuesday with a visit to Baku, Azerbaijan. The visit began on Tuesday evening with a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov.

Minister for Foreign Affairs visiting Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan
Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström is travelling in Southern Caucasus between Monday 8 February and Wednesday 10 February for visits in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Member of the Riksdag Kerstin Lundgren is also taking part.

Inauguration of Consulate-General in New York
Sweden’s new Consulate-General in New York was inaugurated yesterday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Minister for Enterprise and Innovation Mikael Damberg and Sweden’s new Consul-General Leif Pagrotsky. Also in attendance were representatives of the US Department of State and the City of New York.

Important success at World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in Nairobi
Following five days of intensive negotiations in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, the 162 member countries of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) were able to reach a new global trade agreement. The agreement includes regulations for export support for agricultural products, preferential treatment for least-developed countries and a separate agreement to eliminate tariffs on technology products. Liberia and Afghanistan were welcomed as new members.

Swedish support has enabled Liberia’s accession to the World Trade Organisation
Liberia was today accepted as a new member at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial conference in Nairobi. At the accession ceremony, Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf personally thanked Sweden for the support it provided via the National Board of Trade and Sida, and through the role Joakim Reiter played as the chair of the accession group.

Updated Information Technology Agreement gives cheaper electronic products
The negotiations on an updated Information Technology Agreement (ITA) have now been concluded between 53 WTO members, including the EU and Sweden. The agreement will mean duty-free access to an additional 201 technology products and so covers 10 per cent of the value of total world trade – more than global trade in agricultural products.

Successful State Visit from Tunisia
Tunisia’s President Béji Caïd Essebsi concluded his three-day State Visit to Sweden today. The President and his wife were here at the invitation of the King and Queen. Tunisia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs also took part in the visit and was received by Margot Wallström at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. It was announced during the visit that Sweden would open an embassy in Tunisia, and a number of bilateral cooperation agreements were signed.

The Government decides to open a Consulate General in New York
The Government decided today to upgrade the Swedish presence in New York by opening a salaried Consulate General. The Consulate General will open in December and replace the honorary consulate currently there.

Nobel Week 2015 will include press conferences and lectures. On Thursday 10 December, the week will culminate in the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and the Nobel Banquet.
