Gitte Ørskou new director and head of Moderna Museet
Today the Government appointed Gitte Ørskou as the new director and head of Moderna Museet. Ms Ørskou will take up her post on 1 September 2019.
“Gitte Ørskou is a proven good leader and manager, with long experience of leading similar activities. She has sound knowledge and extensive experience of the art world, both in the Nordic countries and internationally. I am therefore very pleased she wants to assume this important position,” says Minister for Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind.
“I feel strongly motivated to lead Moderna Museet; one of the world’s most important museums of modern and contemporary art. Through my career, I have been focusing on building bridges between art and people. My motivation is to touch, move and engage all kinds of people through the power of art,” says Gitte Ørskou.
Information about Gitte Ørskou
Since 2009, Gitte Ørskou has been the director of Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg. Ms Ørskou was previously curator and later head curator of ARoS Aarhus Art Museum. In addition to these roles, Gitte Ørskou has held several positions of trust, including chair of the Danish Arts Foundation. She has long experience of working in the museum world and a solid academic background in art history and management.
