Ambassador Olof Skoog appointed EU Ambassador to UN

Published

Sweden’s current Ambassador to the United Nations, Olof Skoog, has been appointed the European Union Ambassador to the UN. The news was presented today by EU High Representative Federica Mogherini.

Having led the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations in New York, including during Sweden’s term on the UN Security Council in 2017–18, Ambassador Skoog has now been appointed to lead the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations in New York.

“As Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, I am delighted and proud to learn that our ambassador, Olof Skoog, will lead the EU’s work in New York. Sweden and the EU will have the right person in the right position,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde.

The UN’s role in the rules-based multilateral international order is more important than ever, and is a clear Swedish and European priority.

“As a Swede, I am honoured and proud. I will approach the task ahead with humility, and I am convinced that the EU and the UN can work more closely together to handle today’s global challenges,” says Ambassador Skoog.
