Poland signs agreement to procure submarines from Saab and deepen strategic cooperation with Sweden

Sweden and Poland have successfully finalised negotiations on Poland’s procurement of three A26 submarines from Saab. This agreement is a significant step in strengthening Poland’s maritime capability, while also helping the countries deepen their collaboration on security and industrial policy.
The state becomes a shareholder in Videberg Kraft AB

The Government has decided that the state will become a shareholder in Videberg Kraft AB, which plans to build nuclear reactors at Ringhals. The Swedish state, Vattenfall AB and Industrikraft i Sverige AB have concluded a shareholders’ agreement on the management of the company. The state’s shareholding will be 60 per cent, while Vattenfall and Industrikraft will each hold 20 per cent. The state has also negotiated the principal terms and conditions for state aid to the company.

The Defence Commission’s interim report on the current state of Sweden’s total defence and the security situation
In its report, the Defence Commission provides an update on the security situation and describes major changes in the security policy environment for Sweden. The Defence Commission also follows up on the 2024 Defence bill and the obligations arising from NATO membership and collective defence and assesses the current state in both civil and military defence.
In the report, the Defence Commission also makes proposals on how obstacles, primarily to military growth and rearmament, can be removed. The Defence Commission will also provide a final report.

Hazelight Studios wins 2025 Cultural and Creative Industries Export Prize
On 16 June 2026, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa presented the Government’s 2025 Cultural and Creative Industries Export Prize. This year’s award went to Hazelight Studios, the internationally successful video game company founded by Josef Fares. The Rising Star Award was presented to Hodakova, one of Sweden’s most innovative fashion houses.

New director and head of Moderna museet
The Government has decided to appoint Tone Hansen as director and head of Moderna museet. She will take up the post on 1 September 2026.
“Tone Hansen is an experienced museum director and is deeply rooted in the culture and art world. She has extensive experience of working with visions and strategy, museum development and new perspectives on museums’ role in society. I’m convinced that she will help boost Moderna museet’s standing in the museum world, both nationally and internationally. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Gitte Ørskou for her seven years as head of Moderna museet,” says Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand.
The Swedish electoral system is fundamentally robust and difficult for antagonists to manipulate. Government agencies at central, regional and local level have extensive experience of conducting elections correctly, observing due process.
However, the current security situation, rapid pace of technological developments and experience from other elections in Europe have highlighted a need to increase resilience to foreign malign information influence ahead of the general elections on 13 September 2026.
