Sweden will ban the use of mercury on 1 juni 2009 Reference No.: M2008.34

Published Updated

The Swedish Government is introducing a total ban on the use of mercury aimed at minimising releases into the Swedish environment. The ban means, among other things, that amalgam fillings will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances. The Government is also opening the door for the export of mercury-containing waste for permanent storage in deep bedrock depositories in other EU countries.
